In 1666, Sir Isaac Newton created the first color wheel.
On a basic color wheel, there are 3 categories of colors:
- primary colors - cyan, magenta, yellow
- secondary colors - purple, green, orange
- and tertiary colors that mix primary and secondary colors
ROYGBIV is an acronym for the sequence of hues commonly described as making up a rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.
100% of dogs see fewer hues than humans and cannot distinguish between red, yellow, green and orange objects.
In the Shawnee language there are 5 words to describe colors:
- skipakya – blue or green
- m’skwawi – red
- wakanakya – white
- hofawa – yellow or orange
- m’katewa – black
